CAIMAN ECOLOGICAL REFUGE

The Caiman Ecological Refuge, 236 km from Campo Grande, is comprised of two lodges on the main ground of the Ranch (Caiman and Piuva) and two other lodges situated at strategic points of the Ranch (Baiazinha and Cordilheira), each with its own infra-structure and architectural style. Each lodge has a different program of activities like horseback riding, nocturnal outings, trekking, boat trips, truck and pick-up rides etc... Each activity is accompanied by ecological graduated guides and expert native trail guides.During the low season (Jan to Mar) only the Caiman Ladge and the Baiazinha Lodge are in operation, Mid season (Abr to Jun and Oct to Nov. the Caiman Lodge, the Baiazinha Lodge and the Cordilheira Lodge are in operation. Only during the hight season (Jul,Aug & Sept) the Pouva Lodge will operate.

CAIMAN LODGE - The Caiman Lodge was the former residence of the Caiman Ranch in a fine Spanish-style building with 11 air-conditioned rooms with privated facilities, a pool , a restaurant and a living room with TV and video. PIUVA LODGE - Constructed around a Piuva Tree, characteristic of the area, the Piuva Lodge has 06 rooms with private facilities and ceiling fans, a spacious living room, a pool, a dining room and a small homestyle restaurant.

CORDILHEIRA LODGE - Constructed of brick and raised on wood stilts, on the edge of a seasonal wetland, has 06 rooms with private facilities and varanda, an ample rustic living room and a homestyle restaurant , all with ceiling fans. BAIAZINHA LODGE - Raised on wood stilts, the Baiazinha Lodge stands at the edge of a small cove of permanent wetland, facing a tree-covered island which is the dormitory of many birds.

This rustic style Lodge, has 06 rooms with private facilities and varanda, ceiling fans, a large living room and a homestyle restaurant.

Packages are offered including transfers (sib) to and from Campo Grande, fullboard, trekking around the area for observation of the fauna and flora, horseback riding and rides in open cars to further places where a bigger variety of animals can be seen, boat rides in the Aquidauana River and row boats rides in the bay of the lodges, lectures, slides and video projections.

REMARKS : Transfers - Transportation leaves the Airport in Campo Grande at 12:00 noon and departs the the Lodges on last day at 06:00 AM Please note that if the time shedule of the flights to/from Campo Grande changes, the time of the transfers might change as well to try to make the waiting time at the airport as minimum as possible.If one does not want to wait for the regular transfer included in the package, one can take a private transfer by car or plane at extra cost
